Short Biography
I’m a young researcher experienced in applying different techniques at different organisational levels (molecular to population) to understand the impacts of pollutants on ecosystems. My main focus is environmental toxicology working with organisms from aquatic and soil ecosystems, studying the effects of pollutant mixtures and the toxicodynamic of metals, pesticides and even climate changes on non-target organisms. I’m funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie European program and I’m currently supervising 1 undergrad and 1 MREs student in projects related to Environmental ‘Omics. I received 4 Awards and been chair of several NGO within the last years. I’m committed to community engagement having organised/co-organised 2 national and 1 international meeting during my career.
During my PhD, my research focused on the development of draft Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOP) from the terrestrial isopod species Porcellionides pruinosus exposed to the pesticide dimethoate and the metal nickel. The use of the most recent techniques in molecular biology allowed to present for the first time a full body transcriptome of a terrestrial isopod (Porcellionides pruinosus). It also provided the first NMR study that shows the metabolomic profile of terrestrial isopods exposed to nickel and dimethoate, along with the identification of 24 new metabolites that had also not been described previously. To perform the molecular biology analysis, I initiated a collaboration with Prof John Morgan and Prof Peter Kille at Cardiff University.
